Status of the 2020 Nebraska Junior Golf Season

Fully understanding the situation at hand due to COVID-19, Nebraska Junior Golf wants everyone to know that the current and future actions taken regarding the 2020 NJG season will coincide with official local and state recommendations and CDC mandates. At this point in time, other than the cancellation of the Drive, Chip and Putt local qualifiers, the season is planned to operate as normal until further notice.

This morning, it was announced that all Drive, Chip and Putt qualifiers for 2021 have been canceled this summer. This is sad news, but they felt that it was the best decision to make at this time. John Newkirk, PGA, the Director of Operations, Coaching & Player Development for the PGA of America stated, “As you can imagine, this was an extremely difficult decision for the Founding Partners. However, the safety of our participants, their families, host facilities, our Section partners and our PGA Professionals is paramount. After thoughtful deliberation, and with the guidance and projections of experts, the Founding Partners determined cancellation was the most responsible measure to take in protecting the health of everyone involved.”

Our scheduled Drive, Chip and Putt local qualifiers included:
Eagle Hills GC in Papillion on June 6th
Riverside GC in Grand Island on June 26th
Hillcrest CC in Lincoln on July 18th

These facilities have been contacted and all have expressed interest in wanting to host again next summer.

Regarding all other NJG events, we want it to be clear at this point in time that our other programs (NJG Tour, NJG TEAM Golf, Jr. PGA Championships, and NGA Junior Championships) are still planned to go on as normal. It is very apparent that this entire circumstance is fluid and ever changing so we will be sure to keep everyone in the loop with any modifications that surface in the coming weeks as the season approaches.

In the meantime, feel free to take a look at the Sports Engine Website for ways to stay active during this difficult time.
