Impressive Play in the Heat Leads to Some New and Repeating NJG Tour Champions

9 and 18 Hole NJG Tour Championship Awards

LINCOLN-OMAHA (July 28th, 2023) – Presented by Farmers Mutual of Nebraska, Nebraska Junior Golf completed the 2023 Summer season by holding both the 9 and 18 hole NJG Tour Championships on the same day. The 9-hole championship took place at its familiar site of The Field Club of Omaha and the 18-hole championship was held in Lincoln at Hillcrest Country Club.

The 9-hole championship had the youngsters starting on both sides. The Boys 9-11 and Boys 12-13 Int. went off the front and the Girls 12-13, Girls 9-11, Girls 7-8 and Boys 7-8 went off the back 9. The warm day didn’t slow anyone down as there was some great golf played to cap off the season. Walker Nannen of Lincoln won the Boys 12-13 Int. division with an impressive 34 (-1), winning by a 4-stroke margin. Naryn Kim of Lincoln shot 35 (+3) to win the Girls 12-13 division. In the Boys 9-11 division, Meyer Friedrichsen of Elkhorn fought off a stacked leaderboard to win by one stroke with a score of 39 (+4). In the Girls 9-11 division, Bennington’s Anna Midyett capped off her impressive season by winning with a score of 42 (+10). Brody Deutschman of Blair blistered the field with a 10-stroke victory after shooting an even par 32. Finishing victorious in the Girls 7-8 division was Summer Christensen of Omaha with a score of 50.

The 18-hole championship provided a lot of excitement as 3 of the 5 divisions had to be decided by way of a playoff. Starting in the Boys 16+ division, Millard North teammates, Trey Ruge and Sam Vocelka of Omaha both shot 70 (-2) in regulation and battled it out in extra holes to see who the champion would be. In dramatic fashion, Trey Ruge chipped in on the first playoff hole to win. In the Girls 16+ division, Eden Larson and Olivia Lovegrove of Lincoln shot 73 (+1). It took two playoff holes to ultimately decide the winner as Eden Larson came out on top. Leo Mullen of Omaha shot even par 72 to win the Boys 14-15 division and Molly Goc of Columbus defeated Chloe Diprima in a playoff after both shooting 79 (+7) in the Girls 14-15 division. In the Boys 12-13 division, Fremont’s Jackson Luebbe capped off his season as the tour champion after finishing at 75 (+3).

At the conclusion of play, the 2023 Players of the Year were also highlighted and awarded.

About NJG: The newly dubbed ‘Nebraska Junior Golf’ (NJG) continues the great partnership between the two organizations that began with the Nebraska Junior Golf Tour in 2009. Nebraska Junior Golf is an umbrella organization for all junior programs run by the Nebraska PGA and the NGA and will also include an avenue to other opportunities for juniors to learn and play the game throughout the state. The effort to create a “one-stop shop” for junior golfers and their parents will make it easier for those wanting to get involved in the game to know what opportunities are available. Nebraska Junior Golf provides junior golfers of all ages and skill levels the opportunity to learn and play the game of golf.
