Connor Steichen and “Team Treasure” Take Home 2023 FJS Overall Honors

FJS Post Series Awards

LINCOLN (October 10th, 2023) – Presented by the UNL PGA Golf Management Program, Nebraska Junior Golf completed the 2023 Fall Junior Series (FJS) for high school boys. The FJS was wrapped up on October 8th at Ashland Golf Club in Ashland, NE and the post-series awards recognizing the overall Champions as well as the All-Star Team and Captain have been awarded.

The Team at the top of the overall series leaderboard was “Team Treasure”. They played the series in consistent fashion winning the second event at Jackrabbit Run and finishing 3rd place in the first event at Oakland GC and T3 at the final event at Ashland GC, totaling 1050 points to be named the 2023 NJG Fall Junior Series Team Champions. This team featured some tremendous talent made up of Connor Steichen, Jacob Cosimano, and Tommy Kelley, all of Omaha. One of the highlights of the entire series was the very impressive play of Connor Steichen. He was the individual champion at the Jackrabbit Run event on a very windy day, being the only player to shoot under par and carding six birdies on his way to 69 (-3). He shot a 70 (-2) at the first event in Oakland finishing T2 and completed the series with a 71 (E) at Ashland to finish T7. Steichen was deservedly the overall individual series champion. Another highlight came from Jackson Benge of Omaha, who shot the series low round of 64 (-7) at the final event in Ashland. He went on to win the event by 3 strokes.

The overall FJS All-Star Team was also announced. These are the top 5 finishers in the series individual points race. The team is captained by Connor Steichen who finished at the top of the series individual leaderboard (1050 pts). Joining him is Omaha’s Christopher Whittle (740.71 pts), Omaha’s Jackson Benge (725 pts), Lincoln’s Carson Kildow (705 pts) and rounded out by Omaha’s Sam Vocelka (580.71 pts).

Nebraska Junior Golf is an umbrella organization for all junior programs run by the Nebraska PGA and the NGA and will also include an avenue to other opportunities for juniors to learn and play the game throughout the state. The effort to create a “one-stop shop” for junior golfers and their parents will make it easier for those wanting to get involved in the game to know what opportunities are available.
